The story behind the Missing Unicorn

I found the person behind these missing unicorn ads - a New York based painter, Camomile Hixon. Her goal was to brighten people's day. Surely, she succeeded since it gave me a good laugh and lead to the name of my blog =)

She wrote,
"I was travelling back and forth in the subways, and I just noticed the dejection. I'm a pop artist, and I thought – if I could just make one person smile," she told the newspaper. "A unicorn is beyond race, beyond religion. I thought, if I could just make a handful of businessmen on Wall Street think about unicorns, I will be successful."

Wednesday Post

I absolutely love thrifting. I get a rush of endorphins when I find something unique and when I know the item is currently being sold in malls for twenty to forty times the price of Thrift stores. I recently bought a couple of goodies which I will show you all in mid-January after I come back from a New York trip with my sister and family friends. I'm so excited for the trip!

On a random note, I was downtown waiting for the streetcar and saw this ad for a missing unicorn. It said it was last seen entering Central Park...which means I might catch it while on my trip to NY in January, HAHA! I wonder what the story is behind it...

Salmon with Tomato Basil

My creation: Salmon with tomato basil and olive oil
Salmon is my favourite fish. It's easy to cook, packed with Omega-3 fatty acids and is delicious! Omega-3 fatty acids are also known as polyunsaturated fats - the good kind of fat we want in our body to help lower total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol, our "bad" cholesterol. These fatty acids are an excellent source of protein - research has shown it may help prevent heart disease, stroke, cancer, arthritis, psoriasis, depression and Alzheimer's Disease.

I discovered my joy for cooking over the past few years and have been noticing what ingredients go together and ones that do not taste so great together. Olive oil, tomato and basil are three ingredients that complement each other very well. I love making tasty dishes without any added salt.

Still Alice

I just finished reading this poignant novel by Lisa Genova called 'Still Alice.' The novel is written from Alice's point of view, a 50 year old woman who is at the peak of her career but is suddenly diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer's Disease. I really enjoyed it and I highly recommend it to anyone who loves to experience deep emotions or has a loved one with this debilitating disease. I bought it on sale from Chapters for $10 so hurry and go get a copy of your own!
